REDEMPTION ACQUIRED AT GREAT EXPENSE

It is the duty of every man, as far as his ability extends, to detect and expose delusions, illusion, error and competence, and to maintain this focus, never losing hindsight, and/or foresight.

OUR NAMESAKE, NAT TURNER (1800-1831)

Nat Turner was an enslaved man who led a rebellion of enslaved people on August 21, 1831. This revolt claimed massive loss of life and a wave of oppressive legislation intended to prevent enslaved people from again rising against oppression. The President of our foundation is Dr. Bryan Moore, the fifth-generation grandson of Nat Turner.  A movement that began from revenge in 1831, Dr. Moore has changed into a force for redemption and reconciliation.

OUR ROLE

The Nat Turner Foundation supports the efforts of Jubilee Community Development Corporation (JCDC), a holding company whose subsidiaries benefit the people of our North St. Louis neighborhood. JCDC has been serving this area for over twenty years and strives to eliminate the consequences from addiction, mental illness, homelessness, unemployment, and the impact of benign neglect that is ubiquitous in our community.

The JCDC subsidiaries include the following LLCs:

  • Jubilee Services employs 5 full-time and 6 part-time individuals from the community for landscaping and snow removal
  • Soon to be launched Nat Turner Trucking is designed to provide freight hauling services with initial customers identified as SmartPac & VeriPac
  • Jubilee Trucking Academy has trained over 40 people to qualify for CDLs
  • Jubilee Public Works is a recently launched contractor providing excavation and other construction services
  • Both Turner and Victory Over Bondage (VOB) Houses provide 24 active beds for transitional housing, support, training, and accountability for over 90 men who have rotated through the program
  • Eliot School (over 50,000 sq. ft.) was purchased in Spring 2022 from the St. Louis Public School District to support/expand all the above missions and helps expand value to our partnerships.

JCDC provides personal development and accountability to help appraise the needs and to build bridges providing a pathway for the unemployable, addicted, mentally ill and homeless.  This begins their journey to become employed, purpose-driven, contributing, and cooperative stake-holding citizens in the community.

The Nat Turner Foundation is privileged to support the efforts of JCDC, and we invite you to join us.
